Isle of Wight Distillery

Isle of Wight Distillery

The first and only distilling license on the Isle of Wight has been granted to the Isle of Wight Distillery. There are no known records of distilling on the Island so we are proud to make history. We use local, handpicked, ingredients to create our range of small batch produced spirits. Our range includes Wight Mermaids Gin, Rock Sea Vodka, HMS Victory Navy Strength Gin & the first Isle of Wight Whisky is already maturing in barrels, so watch this space!

More

This venture had been discussed for years between Conrad Gauntlett and Xavier Baker. With a combined 30 year’s of vine growing & wine production and 20 year’s brewing experience respectively, both have a keen interest in alcohol production. Distilling was really the next logical step. Whilst brewing in Ireland, Xavier took an interest in the arts of distilling poitín and gaining a better understanding of Irish whisky production. He then went on to travel to Scotland to learn their methods.

Our first production came in the form of Wight Mermaids Gin, a beautifully rounded gin with hints of citrus & pleasant smokiness, due to the use of locally grown Boadicea hops. Wight Mermaids is perfect with tonic, a ribbon of cucumber & a few juniper berries, not to mention in a Martini or our personal favourite; The Bramble.

This was soon followed by Rock Sea Vodka, grain distilled vodka with a hint of rock sea salt. Some say it replicates the feeling of a great day out on the open sea, others liken it to a kiss from a mermaid! However it makes you feel, it makes a mean Bloody Mary!

We are also proud to announce a partnership with The National Museum of the Royal Navy to produce, under license, a unique Navy Strength Gin. The first and only Navy Strength Gin to carry the seal of The Royal Navy. This is our testament to the brilliant story of Navy Strength Gin & the heroes & historical figures who used to enjoy a tipple!
