2017 Mâcon-Villages

Le Grappin, Burgundy

Style White wine
Size 750 ml
ABV 13.0% Alc.

Vineyard: From a 25 year-old parcel of Chardonnay on the outskirts of Péronne, considered the best part of the Mâcon-Villages appellation; north of Pouilly-Fuissé, south of Uchizy, with the vineyards of Viré-Classé bordering on the east. Planted in clay/limestone soil, the fruit from this part of the Mâcon-Villages appellation tends to keep it’s acidity, due to a cooler microclimate, resulting in bright, fresh wines.

Fermentation: The grapes were harvested in early September, pressed without SO2, then chilled to 10ºC in order to settle the solids from the juice. The oxidised juice was then racked to old barrels, stainless steel and some younger, large format barrels. These larger format barrels (350 & 400L) ended up richer and more complex and thus we decided to bottle them as a “Tête de cuvée”, separately from the rest of our Blanc du Grappin program. The barrels for this bottling were aged undisturbed on lies for 8 months and just lightly filtered without fining before bottling.

Tasting Note: Ripe melon, stonefruits and tropical fruits on the nose; pure Mâcon. A lush and juicy mouthfeel is held in tension with a taut, acid driven, mineral backbone. Smashable!
